Hierarchical Bars

This bar chart made using Flourish is used to show hierarchies between different fields. In this case, I used two sets of data: the letters on the left indicate galleries at the original 1913 New York Armory Show, while the length of the bars represents number of artworks, and the bars are further divided into mediums. This visualization allows the viewer to see what types of art they would have found in each room. Right off the bat you notice that the artwork was predominantly oil paintings. You then see that Gallery A had a lot of sculptural work, while K and L had more drawings and prints.

Note that the bar at the top signifies artworks that did not have a gallery location listed in the catalogue. These artworks also may have been listed in the catalogue but did not appear in a gallery.
